Weekend Send-Off

Another week is finally over, and my San Diego trip is getting closer and closer.  Today I started packing, and got really anxious to go.  Since it’s late at night and my head isn’t working the way it should, here’s the love list:

1. Dove Go Fresh Burst Beauty Bar, Nectarine and White Ginger.  Let me begin with “I hate bar soap”.  I hate the scummy feeling you get when you rinse off and I hate that your skin is drier than when you began.  I’ve always been a liquid body wash sort of person (I even prefer liquid hand soap).  It isn’t because of the normal “the bar is sitting there, and it’s covered in germs”, because honestly, I’m not really bothered by that kind of thing, I just hate bar soap.  One day, I was taking a shower and noticed that I had forgotten to bring in my body wash (I keep it in my room so the kids don’t use it all), and the body wash in the shower was gone.  I had been outside, so I was sweaty and there was no way that I was going to skip soaping up.  I grabbed the only soap in the shower; an orange bar soap.  I rubbed it all over my loofah, and I instantly loved the scent; very fruity and sweet.  I washed up, and mentally cringed when I went to rinse off.  But it didn’t leave that scummy feeling.  I got out of the shower and dried off, but my skin wasn’t dry (and it didn’t dry out during the day, either) at all.  The scent lingered on my skin all day (and I love that), and I had to get my own bar.  It says it is “1/4 lotion”, and I believe it.  It’s a fantastic bar soap.

2. C.O Bigelow Lemon Lip Cream.  I picked this up at the Bath and Body Works sale (Buy 2, Get 1 Free, which is still going on!).  There’s something about lemon in the summer that I’m attracted to.  I love the consistency of this cream (not sticky at all!), I love the shine, I love the moisture it gives my lips, I love the smell, and most of all, I love the pure lemon taste.  When I’m wearing it and take a drink from my water bottle, I always get a dab in my mouth, and its not a fake flavor at all.

3. Say Yes to the Dress.  I’ve always been the girl who dreams of her wedding; imagining the colors, the ring, the bridesmaids’ dresses, and the wedding gown.  This TLC show makes me feel like I’m there shopping for my own.  The dresses are gorgeous, the drama is satisfying (and always solved by the end of the show), and the tears of happiness always make MY eyes shiny.  I’m usually kind of soggy by the end of the episode.

As always, I’d love to hear what you’ve been loving this week; just leave it in a comment!  Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend, and I’ll see you all again on Monday, to regale you with a trip to the zoo tale.

You know the super cute blush pink suede stiletto pumps that I got a week or so ago?  I’ve been DYING (and nagged by the kids; “when are you going to wear them?”) to wear them out and about, but have never had an occasion that warrants wearing six inch high heels.

Last night, I had that occasion.  I went out to dinner and movie with someone who shall remain nameless, and I dressed (kind of) to impress.  I spent a few hours curling my hair and doing my make-up and I wore my Refuge jeans (my ABSOLUTE favorites!), my brown mesh zebra tank over a nude cami, and my new high heels.

The night didn’t start so well, and I kind of thought I should change my shoes when I had a hard time walking out to the car.  The heels kept hitting cracks and made me wobble.  The humid heat also was making my feet sweat and my feet were slipping around inside the shoes.  Now, I’m someone who is able to RUN in high heels.  I’ve never had a problem with them.

These shoes, though they are cute as all get-out, are a problem.

They’re not much higher than I usually wear when I wear heels, but the heel is so dang thin that I feel like I’m balancing on a toothpick.  Throughout the night, I took my shoes off to give my poor feet a rest.  While we ate (I had a wonderful steak), I had my shoes off and my feet on the dirty floor.  Walking back out to the car, I took my shoes off when my heel hit a crack and almost sent me tumbling.  And during the movie (“Captain America”, and yes, it was very good), I took my shoes off and curled up in my seat with a cold cherry slushie.  When the lights came up, I gathered all my things and slipped my cold feet back into the shoes.  I stood up, newly confident that after all the rest, my feet wouldn’t hurt to be in the shoes.  I walked over to the stairs, holding my almost empty slushie and my bag.  He who will remain nameless pointed at something on the ground (though he said later that he didn’t do such a thing), and when I looked, the thin, toothpick heel hit a soft spot in the stair.  I tipped forward and skidded down the stairs.  There were only a few, but I heard a couple of gasps from the people still sitting in the theater.  My knee stung from the carpet burn, but my pride was gushing blood.

After asking if I was alright, and if I was embarrassed, I was helped up.  He grabbed the slushie from the ground (it didn’t spill or anything), and held a hand out just in case I needed it.  I nodded, laughed a little bit, slung my bag over my shoulder, held my head up high and pretended that I didn’t just completely make a fool of myself.  I walked across that dark theater like a model on a catwalk.  But in the safety of the empty lobby, I bent down and took the accursed shoes off.  I held them by the heels and I walked across the warm pavement to the car.  Tiny bits of gravel never felt so good on my bare feet.

And though they are the cutest things I’ve ever seen, I never did put those shoes back on.

Tuesday Questions

1.) Mood: Content.  It’s been a pretty short day, but I woke up in a good mood, and really energized.  Even though this headache I have won’t seem to dissapate (I’ve taken 3 advil in the past 4 hours, and nothing will chase the pain away), I’m excited to have only a week until I go to San Diego!

2.) In one sentence, what’s your relationship with your mother?  How about one (hyphenated) word?  Non-existent.

3.) What are three songs you know all the lyrics to?  Well, after hearing a song once or twice, I’ve usually got the lyrics down.  So my three favorite songs at the moment (that I know all the lyrics to) are “Snuff” by Slipknot, “Look What You’ve Done” by Jet and “Start Again” by Red.

4.) Current nail polish: Nothing on my fingernails, but I’m wearing Sally Hansen X-treme Wear in “Mint Sorbet” on my toes with “Treasure Island” on the tips of my big toes.  It’s actually a really cute combination, very mermaid-y.

5.) What is the biggest challenge you face right now? Well, the biggest thing I can think of is going to San Diego by myself.  It’ll be interesting, to say the least.

6.) What is the last thing you regret buying, and why? I’m thinking back, and I can’t really think of anything that I really regret.  I regret not waiting to order my tickets until I was sure I had someone else going with me to San Diego, but it’s an adventure, and I’m ready for it.  I also would have booked the return time earlier than 1 a.m. though…

7.) Current outfit: Grey green cargo-y pants and a pink t-shirt.

8.) What’s a common misconception that people have about you? That I’m really smart and really artistic.  I may be creative, but I’m not an artist.  Also, I’m not sure if it’s still a misconception about me, but I used to get “aren’t you anorexic?” a lot, because I’m so thin.  I don’t have an eating disorder, it’s in my genes to be skinny!

9.) What makes you feel safe and secure? I love beds that are tightly made, like in hotels.  I love the feeling of being completely surrounded by the sheets.  I also love the feeling of being held, whether I’m sleeping or awake.

10.) Weekly goals: Continue going over my packing list to eliminate things I don’t need (I got rid of about 4 things yesterday), start packing the things I don’t use everyday to cut down on the amount that I need to pack, and figure out how I getting to and from the airport.

A Little Update

I’ve been sort of MIA around here lately, and I’m sorry I missed the weekend send-off on Friday…I have no idea what I was doing that I couldn’t type up a quick love list, so I’m sorry.  There’s been lots of developments around these parts these days, but not all are blog-able.

I bought some new gauges (Hot Topic was having a big sale on them, and they have the most girly gauges I’ve found):

These are size 4 (that’s what I’m at now), and I’m currently wearing the little posts (which is why there’s only one pictured).  They were $3.98, originally $18.00.

These are also size 4, and although they weren’t on sale, I wanted them really bad because they sort of matched “Treasure Island“.  They were $16.00.

These are size 2 (which is probably the biggest I’ll go) and they were $8.98, which isn’t much different from the original price of $12.00.

These are the last ones I got, and I got them mainly for the shape of the posts.  You can’t really tell in the picture, but they’re sort of mushroom shaped.  They also have a sort of luminesence to them.  They cost $4.98, orginally $20.00.

I also got my hair cut (and picked up some Paul Mitchell Awapuhi shampoo, which is my favorite, and some Paul Mitchell conditioner that I didn’t really want, but because it was buy one get one 50% off I got it; I’m bad at passing up a sale), but I haven’t been able to get any good pictures of it.  It’s a long angled bob, with the length kept in the front (except for the trim) and about 2 inches in the back.  It feels so much shorter than it actually is, and I feel so light and summer-y (even though fall is coming up very soon).  It’s strange of my to say this, but I can’t wait for the cooler weather, because I can go dark again.  I haven’t been out in the sun as much as I could be, but my hair has gotten really light.  San Diego rays will really lighten it up.  There’s a little more than a week until I go, and I’ve already made my packing list (which turned out to be quite a lot of stuff, every time I look through it I find something that I don’t need, so hopefully it won’t be quite as long when it comes time to pack).

More New Stuff

I did even MORE shopping a few days ago (that’s what happens when the mall is only minutes away), and I picked up some cute things that I’m excited to wear (I’m making myself wait until San Diego).

This was from Target, from the first shopping trip.  I knew that I needed a planner for school, and I was never able to find a good sized one that was cute, and that I would actually use.  I depended heavily on planners in high school (we also HAD to have them to go anywhere because of the passes in the back), and bought a really nice one before I started school last year.  It was the size of a magazine, and I used it on and off (not enough to justify paying $30 for it).  I think the reason I didn’t carry it around much was the size.  So this one, which is made from recycled materials, is the perfect size, and super cute.  It also has a ribbon bookmark, so I won’t have to flip through pages and pages to find the right date (which annoyed me about the other one).

I got this shirt at Delia’s; it was on sale for $15.  I loved the summer print on the front, but the back was the reason I ended up getting it.

I found this flowy shirt in Forever 21, on sale (everyone was having huge sales) for maybe $5.  It’s so soft and silky.  I can see wearing it over a bikini at the beach, but also over a cami around the house.

When I saw this, I literally squealed and shoved all my bags at Krista to hold.  I LOVE THIS DRESS.  I have NO IDEA where I’m going to wear it, but I love it and I had to have it.

We headed back to Charlotte Russe (which was having the major sale still) to look at their pumps, because I had to have some for the lace dress.  I found ANOTHER mesh-zebra tank top in a bright teal.

These are the pumps.  They’re a very soft nude pink suede, and they are extremely high (the heels are also really thin).  They look adorable with the lace dress.

Because CR was having a “Buy one pair get the 2nd pair for $10”, I figured I might as well get another pair of shoes.  I chose these booties, because I’ve been wanting a pair for a long time.  I love the chunky heel (it makes it so much easier to walk in them), and I love the light grey leather.  These would be super cute with some dark wash jeans.

The rings were all $2.99, so I found two that I really loved.  The bow was kind of an impulsive buy because I liked it so much, and the feather went with my favorite necklace.

Bath and Body Works was ALSO having a sale (on soaps too) “Buy 2, get 1 free”.  I got suckered in on the lip glosses.  I got Lemon lip cream, Lemon and Pomegranate lip cream, and Ripe Blackberry lip shine.  I love the lip creams, and the lip shine isn’t sticky at all (which I LOVE).

The best part of the trip was walking by Build A Bear Workshop.  I’ve ALWAYS wanted to build one, and Krista told me that she’s made 3.  I figured: hey, I might as well look.  When we walked in, I was drawn to the bunnies.  I got this one:

His name is Luca and he’s my love bunny.  I kissed his heart and made a wish before he was all sewn up, and I cuddle with him every night.

Tuesday Questions

I’ve spent the last couple of days shopping for my upcoming trip (yesterday I picked up some new shoes, a few new shirts, a lace dress and some lip balms; maybe I’ll take some pictures to show you tomorrow), and watching a whole lot of T.V.  Today may end up being a productive day (which wouldn’t be such a terrible thing) even though it’s really hot outside.  Onto the questions:

1.) Mood: I’m in a really good mood this morning (afternoon?).  I slept in way late, woke up and had breakfast, and took a really nice shower.  I plan on getting some cleaning/organizing done today.

2.) What are you plans for the coming weekend?  Well, the kids get back the night of the 23rd, so I’ll be chilling in the house waiting for them to return.  Other than that, I’m not entirely sure as of now.

3.) What are three things you want to accomplish in your life?  I want to learn to speak another language fluently (French or Italian would be wonderful), travel all over the world (possibly backpack Europe for a few months), and have children.

4.) Current nail polish: Nothing.  I’m giving my nails a break.

5.) Get the closest book, turn to page 18 and write the 4th line down: “Bene Gesserit schools?”  (If anyone can guess what book it’s out of without googling it, you’re awesome!)

6.) Would you donate blood?  Yes, I think so.  After being in the hospital and having IVs, I’m not quite as scared of needles as I used to be.  Having 4 tattoos helps, too.  But the few times I’ve had my blood drawn, I’ve felt really faint, and I’m not sure I like that feeling.

7.) Current outfit: Black bermuda shorts and a grey tank top from PacSun.  Pretty sure I was wearing the same thing when I did my last Tuesday Questions.

8.) How do you deal with stress?  I eat.  I know it’s not a great way to handle it, but when I get super stressed, nothing works quite like eating until I feel like I’m going to burst.

9.) When was the last time you got your hair cut?  The last time was when I went with Krista to get the trim, more than a month ago.  I need to get my ends cut off sometime soon.

10.) Weekly goals: Continue drinking water (I’ve been doing so good since I got the new water bottle!), eat a little better (stop eating so much bread and sugar!) and start getting more organized and ready to go to California.

Countdown to San Diego

There’s 16 days until I get to go to San Diego (plane tickets are ordered, and the place I’m staying is reserved), and this past weekend, I did a little bit of shopping to be completely prepared.  I stopped in at Victoria’s Secret for some cute new underthings (which I will not be posting pictures of), picked up some new tops at Charlotte Russe, got some new flip flops at Old Navy, new sunglasses from Claire’s (which was a surprise!), stopped at the MAC counter to get a new lipstick, found a perfume I’ve been looking for for quite awhile now and a new water bottle from Bed, Bath and Beyond.  I also ordered new swim suits and a couple new tank tops from PacSun.

I love Old Navy flip flops, and the green are my favorite.  I got the green and pink ones for 99 cents a pair, and the purple and blue ones for 2/$5.  I always stock up when they’re on sale because I wear them so much.

The left suit is made by Kirra and the right one is made by Roxy.

Both tank tops were part of a “Buy one get one free” sale on PacSun’s website, and they were each $5, so I paid about $2.50 for each one after all was said and done.

This was from Charlotte Russe on the sale racks, and I could see myself wearing it with a swimsuit on top.

I’d been loving the crop top look and was sort of looking around for a cute one when I found this at Charlotte Russe.  I fell in LOVE with it!  The sleeves are lace with a faint leopard print, and its really lightweight.  The back is longer than the front, and I could picture wearing it over my swimsuit at the beach.  I’m kind of obsessed with it.

This was also on the sale rack (for $5) at Charlotte Russe.  It’s so silky and pretty!  You can’t really tell, but the mesh is sort of a zebra print, and it looks really cute over a white tank top.

These were the reason we went into Charlotte Russe; camisoles.  I’ve been obsessed with wearing them lately and needed more because I only have one.  They were buy one get one half off, and they’re $7.50 each.  One is a dark grey and the other a light nude.

I was on the hunt for the perfect aviators.  We searched the mall high and low, and ended up stopping in Claire’s because we saw a sunglass rack.  When I found these, I was like, “well, they’re mirrored, and I like that”.  So I tried them on and they were PERFECT in every way.

I’ve been on the hunt for a good water bottle for awhile, because I’ve been drinking a lot of water lately and wanted something other than a plastic bottle.  I have one that has a screw top, but I didn’t like it.  I found this one at Bed, Bath and Beyond for $10 and like that it has a straw so I won’t spill water down my front when trying to get a drink.

After trying this lipstick on at the counter (MAC Impassioned), I loved it.  I love bright lipsticks on me, and this one looks really good with my skintone.

After getting a sample of this from Ulta, I’d been looking for it.  When I looked at Ulta for the full size, the 1 oz. was $78 and though I absolutely LOVED this perfume, I couldn’t pay that much.  I found this size, 1.7 oz, for $65, and they only had a few left because it’s getting harder and harder to get a hold of.  I’m not all that great at describing smells, so this is taken from Sephora.com:

Lolita Lempicka is an enchanting and alluring fragrance that gently balances the sweetness of ivy leaves and aniseed with delicate violet and iris root, and finishes with a smooth hint of vanilla and musk. This sensual fragrance is pure, light, and endearing.

Ivy Leaves, Aniseed, Amarena Heart, Violets, Iris Roots, Vetiver, Tonka Bean, Vanilla, Musk.
A sensual, romantic, and enchanting fragrance.

All I know is that it smells like licorice and I love that.  It’s such a romantic scent to me…almost as good as Amber.

So that’s about all I got (I also got some things from Target; sunscreen, creme eyeliner, eyeliner brush, eyelash curlers, a new planner, etc) but it’s all in Krista’s car still.  Hope everyone has a great Monday!
