A Few Things

I’ve been really bad with blogging the past week or so, and seriously, I always feel really guilty when I realized that I haven’t posted something that day.  But I feel even more guilty when I post crap that’s so boring to read.  So, I’m going to give you a few updates and some things I’ve been doing lately.

I want to thank everyone for their concern with my rough nanny experience, and assure everyone that I am completely fine right now.  I’ve been sleeping on Krista’s couch, and next Monday, I’ll be moving into my dorm room about a month early.  I’ve talked to the college, and they were agreeable enough to allow me to move in earlier than most people are allowed (unless, of course, you’re in sports or an RA, which I’m not).  This is the reason I haven’t had much to blog.  Krista and I stay up really late (about 5 am) and sleep all day (until about 2 pm) and repeat that almost every night.

I have no idea what this nail polish is.  I’ve tried looking it up, but I can’t find anything that it really resembles in swatches on OPI’s website.  So, if you know what it is, be sure to let me know because it’s frustrating me like crazy to not know the color.  (By the way, it’s a mini bottle and it’s ridiculous how much I love it; it’s soo so cute!)

This is two coats, but it’s still pretty see through.  I really like the color, and would buy the full size version, but again, I have no idea what it’s called. (Edit: I think I’ve figured out the color, with the help of an expert cosmetologist from Arizona :D, and it seems to be “Not Like The Movies” from the Katy Perry collection.)

This is the most exciting thing that I’ve tried lately, and to those not interested in make-up, feel free to skip this.  I watched a tutorial on this look (and though I used it as inspiration, I sort of made it my own with blending and color placement), and knew that I had to try it.  I was alone tonight while Krista was at work and everyone else was gone to a baseball game, and figured that I might as well do it to see if I liked it.

I love it.  It’s really hard to see how beautiful it is in the pictures, because the colors don’t show up nearly as bright, but trust me when I say that it’s GORGEOUS.  It’s my new favorite make-up look, even if it is a LITTLE bit bright for everyday.

Don’t mind me peeling EVERYWHERE.  I got burnt so bad in San Diego; my chest, my back, my scalp, and my legs (which will probably scar, they got burnt so badly).  It’s gross but satisfying to peel huge pieces off of my skin.

So, do you love it as much as I do?

Aztec Orange

This is the one polish that I was disappointed with.  It’s lovely, like most polishes of this brand, but when I ordered it, I was expecting a dusty orange (because of the swatch).  What I got was this:

This is three coats with a top coat (same as always), but does that look orange to you?  The glitter is a reddish gold, and it really is a lovely polish, but…

I don’t like how red looks on me.  What do you think?

Magnetic Force

I thought that “Magnetic Force” looked really good on my toes, but after testing it out on my nails, I’m even more in love.  I know I said this about “Treasure Island“, but this is one is definitely my favorite (so far).  It surpasses “Treasure Island” (only because TI was so hard to get off!), and it’s a perfect summer coral with a bit of shimmer to it.  I love the almost florescent quality to it (which, of course, will be hard to capture in photos).

I’m wearing three coats with a coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Anti-Chip Top Coat over top (I love love love this top coat.  It doesn’t dry in 30 seconds like it says, but it dries super fast and leaves a lovely, glossy shine to my nails).  “Magnetic Force” reminds me a lot of “Tahiti Sunrise“, but a lot less red (it looks pretty red in the picture, but I assure you, it’s not red).

What do you think?  How does this one compare to “Treasure Island” and “Perfect Sunrise“?

Treasure Island

(The next week of posts may be a little bit nail polish heavy.)

I think I’ve found one of my all-time favorite nail polishes.

It’s “Treasure Island” from the polishes that I got yesterday, and I’m in love with it.  I know you should always wear an opaque polish underneath a glitter, but I wanted to see what it was like on it’s own.  In the picture, I was wearing either 7 or 8 coats (I lost track), with nothing underneath.  The topcoat added extra sparkle, I’m happy to report.  The glitter in it is a mixture of a teal green and a dark blue.

Isn’t it just lovely?  I’ve been distracted by my nails a lot today because the sun will hit them just right and the glitter specks just explode.  I’ve already got so many ideas for this polish; other colors that it would look good layered on top of, but I’ve got to get a hold of myself…I have 5 other colors to try out before I really experiment.  So, what do you think of it?

Some New Colors

I got the L.A. Colors polish that I ordered about a week ago, and its my goal to try it all out before I head to San Diego, so I know which ones to pack to bring with me!  Cherry Culture is amazing at shipping things; everything was bubble wrapped within an inch of it’s life, so everything got here all safe and sound:

And bubble wrapped a little bit more:

Here are all the colors:

Left to right: Aztec Orange, Treasure Island, Perfect Sunset, Exotic Pink, Magnetic Force, Jungle Fever and Twilight.  I was most excited for Treasure Island, because it’s a really pretty greenish glitter, but after swatching them on paper to see the colors, my favorite so far is Magnetic Force.

I have Magnetic Force on my toes, but I’ll wait to show you when it shows up on my nails (perfect bright for summer, so it will be on my nails a lot!).  On my fingernails is Perfect Sunset, a very pretty, shimmery orange.

It took two coats to get this level of opaqueness, and I can still see the tips of my nails through it.  One more coat and it would be completely opaque.

As always, I’m impressed with the formulation, the pigment, and the price of these polishes!  I’m always satisfied with whatever colors I order (although they don’t always come true to online swatch, as is the case with Aztec Orange, but that’s a story for another day).  What do you think of them?

Coolest thing ever, right?  I did this by dipping pieces of newspaper in water and then pressing the wet chunk to my nail and holding it.  When I peeled the newspaper off (VERY carefully), only the ink was left.  It could be wiped away with your finger.  Then I went over with a topcoat.  I love it!
